Kia ora, my name is Enzo and I am based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Photography has been my primary weekend and holiday pastime since 2019. To start with I was mostly interested in shooting sport, but that changed during the COVID-19 lockdowns when capturing birds on my daily walks close to home became an unexpected creative outlet. I quickly fell in love with the challenge, the beauty, and the calm it offered – and I’ve been driven ever since to become the best amateur bird photographer I can be.
That drive has led me to recognition as runner-up in the animal category of Australasia’s Top Emerging Photographers in 2025, and a finalist in New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year in both 2025 and 2026.
My style favours tightly framed, minimalist compositions with clean backgrounds that showcase the personality and attitude of the birds. I’m drawn to shape and form, and I try to use light creatively to add mood and depth, playing with contrast and shadow whenever the conditions allow.
Some of my favourite subjects are birds that people see every day without giving them a second thought. I enjoy the challenge of showing them in a different light and revealing just how extraordinary they can be.
